Showboat TV, Pembroke Dock

Full Motion Video

Welcome to an unique and innovative project to bring together the talents of Actors to Coders, Writers to Game Designers and Makeup Artists to Computer Artists.

Set over the course of 2½ days based in a TV recording studio, the FMV Game Jam is to design and produce an interactive Full Motion Video story based in Pembroke Dock for mobile devices and computers, completely from scratch.

The Game Jam starts with a blank canvas - we don't know what the story is or how the game will be played.

By using your creativity and talent we can overcome this challenge and make a great game!

We need Coders

Know your Unreal and Unity? Or perhaps your just starting to learn Java? Are you a famous Shakespearean actor on holiday in Pembrokeshire, or are you wanting to get into the show-biz?

Love games or love acting?

Everyone is important at the FMV Game Jam and will be given a role.

There's been a Murder!

In Pembroke Dock...

A promising local Detective has to solve a serious crime!

By interviewing, and tailing suspects in various locations in Pembroke Dock.

You only have a few days - Can you find enough evidence and testiomy to make the correct arrest?

Is it a Murder, Robbery or Kidnapping?

We have no idea! Part of the fun of a Game Jam is that we don't know the story until the day.

The theme for the story will be revealed on the Open Day  Just enough time to allow you dream up some juicy plot details and memorable characters.

Game Development

A big part of the Game Jam is getting a lot of work done in a short amount of time.

To help with this, the Game Jam is located in a fully featured TV Studio - Showboat TV. They have all the equipment and staff - ready to help out.

Using Green Screens we can accelerate the filming progress rather shooting on location. The entire team does not need to worry about the lighting or weather. Instead they can concentrate in getting good takes.

Meanwhile at Nerd Central, a wide range of technologies are perfect for Game Development; such as Unity or Unreal Game Engines.

Mobile Devices and Computers are quick enough to colour-grade, and superimpose recorded green screen video onto static or moving, without the need of time expensive editing software.

A few of the PDGameJam veterans will on hand to help out with the programming and lead the project. We've got this!

We just need you and your computer.

How long is the Game Jam?

Roughly 50 hours, but we will insist attendees go home for the night so they are fresh in the morning.

Who's running the Game Jam?

The Game Jam is run by Pembroke Dock Game Jam Ltd, a not for profit organisation based in Pembroke Dock. PDGJ is kindly assisted by Showboat Tv, and the Pembroke Dock Town Team.

This is our Fourth Game Jam.

What happens when the Game is complete?

We intend to polish it and have it published on various online App Stores for a nominal fee.

What happens if we run out of time?

We have days reserved for pickups; for recording extra footage or dialogue. The game code will be on a central repository so attendees can work from home, or we can meet up at Showboat.

I don't have to be in front of the camera if I don't want to?

Absolutely not! However, if your not camera shy, we may ask you to be an extra in a shoot or two.

Can I bring my pets, best mate, mum, dad, etc. to watch?

Afraid not, unless they are prepared to take part in the Game Jam as much as you.
